One elusive lama
Written by Pete on July 10th, 2009We suspected his Holiness might step out onto the balcony to do something crazy while he though nobody was looking, but alas we saw no late night Lama Dance.

Dalai Lama's residence
We’ll I’ve definitely decided that the Dalai Lama is my favorite Lama. Sure the Panchen Lama is young and hip, shrouded in mystery, hiding out in the custody of the Chinese government. Then there is the Black Hat Lamas with their ohhhh so cool Goth version of Buddhism, but when it comes right down to it I like my lamas old, bald, and funny.
We are determined though to be in the enlightened presence of his holiness. Recent rumors of him giving talks in the Spiti valley will have us on the move for a 4+ day trek in that direction. First we will take a quick rafting trip down the Beas river, because we don’t want to appear like desperate stalkers of course. After rafting we will sneak across a few passes, cleverly disguised in a group of tourists trekking, and then crash the party in Spiti.
Who knows perhaps the Spiti valley is the perfect place to glimpse a real Lama party. I’m told what happens on the roof of the world stays on the roof of the world.

What beautiful scenery. It is a good thing you are not afraid of heights.
