When 8 travelers, who have just met, go out for a night on the town in Ulanbataar there is bound to be some moments to remember.  Music, dancing, wine, free drinks from the Mongolians, and Benji the cab driver finding us a club at 2am.  Well it all worked out fine and I’ll never doubt Benji again.

The drunken 2am conversation with our Mongolia cab driver (who somehow got named Benji) and who didn’t understand a bit of english, went something like this (in a great Irish accent) …

“Benji. Hey Benji.  Benji, look here man.  We need to go to a club.  Do you know club?”  Please find us a damn club man!  Were counting on you, our families are counting on you, your family is counting on you, Mongolia is counting on you! Get us to a club man and you’ll be an f’ing legend.”

….Blank stare from Benji.

The credit for the fine comedic navigation goes to my Irish and Welsh friends who kept me laughing all night,  and for many days to come as I fondly remember Benji.

Best wishes and safe travels to all the drinking pirates who participated that evening.

Hi Pete…wish I was there. Glad you are laughing and traveling. I’m back from Alaska for the most part. Have cousins in town (very cool) and now have an office in Downtown Seattle. See you soon.
